A stand dryer is the beating heart of any professional dog grooming salon. When your double-motor blaster suddenly starts blowing scalding hot air, tripping the circuit breaker, or cutting out mid-groom, it can bring your entire salon workflow to a grinding halt. Before you panic or book an expensive service call, check these 3 quick fixes.
1. Check and Clean the Intake Filters
The number one cause of stand dryer overheating is restricted airflow caused by a buildup of fine dog dander and hair trapped in the intake filters. When airflow is choked off, the heating element retains too much heat, causing thermal cutoffs to trip or motors to burn out prematurely.
The Fix: Remove the rear filter housing, wash out or vacuum away compacted hair and debris, and ensure the filters are completely bone-dry before putting them back on.
2. Inspect the Carbon Brushes
If your dryer is making a sputtering sound, throwing tiny sparks near the motor housing, or losing wind velocity alongside the extreme heat, your carbon brushes might be worn down.
The Fix: Unplug the unit and check the motor brushes. If they are worn down past the halfway mark, they fail to make clean electrical contact, which creates internal resistance and generates massive amounts of localized heat.
3. Check for Hose Blockages and Kinks
Sometimes the problem isn't the machine itself—it's the flexible hose. Over time, hair clumps can form an internal blockage inside the hose, or the hose can become tightly kinked, trapping the air output.
The Fix: Detach the hose from both the machine nozzle and the stand arm. Shine a light straight through it to clear out any trapped felted hair blockages and straighten out sharp bends.
If you've checked these three areas and your dryer is still running dangerously hot, bring it into our Tullamarine service hub or contact our team for professional motor maintenance and repairs!
